Sit around a table with Laura and it will become evident very quickly that she’s pretty much seen and done it all over her twenty-year stint in PR and marketing in this city and she has the stories to prove it. She is a trusted advisor to some of the most influential business and government leaders in the province for senior strategy advice on corporate reputation, issues and media management, as well as issues and crisis response. Laura is well versed in developing integrated plans that blend PR and marketing together, ensuring all audiences are reached with a consistent message using the right platforms to tell the story. Laura has touched every sector in this city from tourism to resources and government, providing sage advice for organizations including the Pacific National Exhibition and the Times of India, as well as the City of Surrey and the Union of BC Municipalities. She’s direct, no nonsense and is committed above all else to moving the dial when it comes to issues management and conversations. She’s also got a passion for giving back to the community, with a portion of fees committed annually to pro-bono work for non-profits and causes that have big impact in our neighbourhoods.

In a career that spans more than two decades, Dale has established himself as one of Canada’s preeminent communications professionals. After 10 years as an award-winning journalist, Dale successfully held some of the top communications positions in British Columbia and Canada. He spent 10 years as a senior communications strategist in the British Columbia Government, including five years as the Director of Communications for the Premier’s Office, before becoming the Vice President of Executive and Corporate Communications for TELUS. In addition to developing and executing communications strategies for multi-billion dollar public and private organizations, Dale has been the senior communications advisor for a Premier, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly, CEOs, Board Chairs as well as executive and senior leaders of all levels. His experience holding senior positions in three separate industries - media, government and corporate business - is rare within the consulting industry and allows him to provide exceptional strategic and tactical support to LBMG’s clients with unique perspectives. Dale has a track record of fostering both internal and external relationships, while leading teams to develop and execute strategic communications initiatives. These initiatives have been proven to drive organizational priorities, influence public outcomes and support the overall success of large and small organizations. Dale is passionate about supporting his local community, most recently sitting as a volunteer board member for the Better Business Bureau of Mainland British Columbia. He is married and is an exceedingly proud father of three daughters.

With a background in Public Affairs and Marketing Communications, Eddie has worked at LBMG since October of 2014. Since that time, he has grown to become one of the newest members of the firm's leadership team, and a trusted advisor to his clients on matters of marketing, communications and public affairs. A lifelong resident of the Lower Mainland, Eddie follows the media and political landscapes of the region closely. He is driven by a desire to lead campaigns that are on the cutting edge of Canada's marketing and communications trends, both in creativity and in their use of new technologies. Additionally, Eddie’s portfolio includes several strategic communications focused campaigns, where he seamlessly bridges the gap between complex organizations and their audiences in order to achieve strong results in challenging environments. In his time at LBMG, Eddie has led effective campaigns for a wide range of clients, including BC Place, the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Royal LePage Real Estate, Dominion Lending Centres, and many others. He previously worked at the US Consulate General Vancouver in Public Affairs and at Disney Online Studios Canada in Data Analysis. Outside of work, Eddie is a huge sports fan and an avid traveller. When he’s not at the office, he loves skiing in the winter and barbecuing in the summer.

Kelly joins LBMG after more than two decades of communications experience in a variety of key roles at the provincial government level and as a member of the media. For the past six years, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister for Communications and Public Engagement during which he played a key role in developing and delivering government’s proactive agenda and issues management. Kelly has also served as Director of Communications for the Ministry of Children and Family Development and Director of Communications for government. He started his career as a radio news anchor in B.C. and Saskatchewan and has built a reputation for thoughtful collaboration which will serve clients of LBMG well. Work aside, Kelly is a self-confessed music and sports fanatic. He is married and the father of two terrific children.

Ask Keith’s media contemporaries to describe his approach to anything he undertakes and you will hear such words as “passion”, “enthusiasm”, “energy and “innovation” used repeatedly. Never in neutral, the Brit trained news guy drives projects as he would a finely tuned car, adding the options and features along the way to make the experience as good as it can be. Indeed, Keith is an innovator in developing editorial content for all media platforms and a master at weaving informative and entertaining material of wide appeal into imaginative revenue generation projects. He began his journalistic career in 1975 as a reporter for his hometown newspaper in Blackpool, England, moving to Vancouver in 1980 where he began a 32-year-career with The Province/Vancouver Sun. Latterly he created such highly profitable and readable specialty sections at the papers as Driving and Sunday Homes. The multiple-award-winner broadened his media experience by authoring two books, making regular TV appearances, hosting talk shows in Vancouver and Kelowna and writing and executive producing The Province Road Test quiz show for prime time TV. Away from the day job, Keith has donated his creative abilities in support of the Coast Foundation’s Courage to Come Back Awards, the United Way and the Christmas Bureau.

Steph is a gifted strategic communicator who has extensive professional experience and a proven track record of influencing opinions and positive outcomes for provincial, national and international projects. Steph spent more than 10 years as an award-winning reporter, working with countless community influencers and telling stories that directly lead to positive public outcomes. Following her successful journalism career, Steph joined one of the world’s largest forest products scientific research centers where she developed and executed internal and external corporate communications strategies. Her work in coordinating international events and leveraging company brands for Canadian and U.S. companies resulted in national and international recognition. At LBMG, Steph continues to enjoy the privilege of working with numerous clients on impactful issues and events that generate national and international attention. Steph has a degree in leadership communications, a diploma in journalism and certificates in industry specific business. Deadline driven, service-above-self single-minded and motivated by delivering unsurpassed results, Steph is committed to living the lesson she tells her two youngest sons – the best way to make a maximum impact in life is to put your values in action. For Steph that commitment means volunteering at her sons’ schools and serving in organizations where she can make an authentic difference.

With over 15 years of promotional experience, Francis has honed his skills in the Marketing and Promotions. He has taken this knowledge to Laura Ballance Media group and has added traditional and digital advertising to his onslaught of skills. Francis has an entertainment and events background and comes with over a decade of media experience working previously at Bell Media. He has worked on promotions with Live Nation, The Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, BC Lions, Warner Bros. Pictures, Disney Pictures, Universal Music, Sony Music, and Warner Music to name a few. Francis also has a personal interest in the visual arts with photography and videography. When not at work, you can find Francis at one of the many local breweries, indulging in 90’s Hip Hop and R&B, taking pictures around the city, or jet setting around the world.

Megan, originally hailing from Dublin, Ireland is an Account Manager here at LBMG. With a background in Event Management and Public Relations, she is used to dealing with all things media and coordinating logistics on large, complex events. Megan has been working at LBMG since January 2016 and has worked as part of both the advertising team and public relations team working on clients ranging from entertainment to cooperate. Megan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Arts Management from IADT (Dublin) and has recently completed a course in Social Media Marketing at BCIT. In her spare time, she enjoys attending concerts, travelling and camping.

She has been working in the digital marketing field since graduating from UBC’s Sauder School of Business with a Bachelor of Commerce (marketing specialization) degree and a Minor in Psychology. She also has certifications in UX and UI Design, and is currently pursuing a Digital Marketing Specialization at Wharton for a deeper understanding of the ever-evolving industry. In her spare time, she enjoys immersing herself in fantasy or dystopian worlds, painting Disney art, traveling to learn more about different cultures and research for the elements of her novels, or you can find her in a movie theatre every Friday.

Kelsey is a Senior Public Relations Specialist at LBMG. She is a former journalist, with experience in newsrooms across Western Canada and a love for all things news. Her media background is to credit for her expertise in determining newsworthy details and pitching those stories to the right newsroom. She graduated from NAIT’s Radio and Television program before jumping into the world of news. After spending a number of years in Alberta working in the CTV Edmonton newsroom, she made the decision to move back home to work in the Global BC newsroom in her hometown of Vancouver before joining us at LBMG. Kelsey enjoys baking cookies, forcing her dog to cuddle with her and taco date nights with her husband.

A multiple-award winning journalist, Fabian Dawson is an internationally acclaimed author, filmmaker and media expert.
His work over the last three decades spans the globe and he also serves as a consultant/strategic advisor to a variety of international companies.
Until August of 2016, Dawson, 55, was the deputy editor-in-chief of The Province newspaper in Vancouver, which is part of the Postmedia group, Canada’s largest media organization. He was also the editor of Vancouverdesi.com, Canada’s biggest South Asian news portal.
As the deputy editor-in-chief, Dawson oversaw the work of dozens of reporters and unit heads responsible for both the print and internet edition of the paper which covers financial reporting, investigative reporting, local and international news, sports and lifestyle and revenue generating directed content initiatives.
Born and raised in Malaysia, Dawson is of Indian origin. He migrated to Vancouver in 1988. He has two children.
As a journalist, Dawson’s work has taken him all over Asia, Europe, North and Central America. He serves as the editorial advisor to the Vancouver-based South Asian Post, Asian Pacific Post and Filipino Post newspapers as well as several publications in Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Singapore, Philippines and England and the Market One Media Group.
Dawson is a regular on TV and radio talk shows and is a guest lecturer at various schools of journalism. His work, particularly in India, has led to the creation of four documentary films and a made-for-TV movie.
He has been cited for excellence in journalism multiple times since 2002 by the Jack Webster Foundation while many of the stories he has directed have won national and international journalism awards.
In 2004, The National Newspaper Awards Board of Governors named Dawson as the recipient of 2004 Unsung Hero of Canadian journalism. The NNA awards are the highest honours in Canadian newspaper journalism.
In July 2006, an investigative team led by Dawson won the prestigious Daniel Pearl Award in New York for 2005's outstanding story about South Asia. The team also took the Rolls Royce Commonwealth Award in London, the Jack Webster Award for Excellence in Journalism in Canada, while receiving citations of merit from the Canadian Association of Journalists, the Society of Newspaper Design and the Canadian National Newspaper Awards Committee.
In 2008, Dawson was presented the Izzy Award, the highest honour in the Canwest Media (now Postmedia) empire of 10,700 employees. Later he was awarded the company’s president’s prize for innovation in media.
He is also a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, cited as among the top 100 influential South Asians in Vancouver by the Vancouver Sun and was recently honoured by the Vancouver-based Darpan Magazine and the Chetna Association of Canada for his work within the South Asian media.
Dawson is a much sought-after media commentator on Asian affairs and has been called to speak to Members of Parliament in Canada’s House of Commons on matters pertaining to national security and at international seminars sponsored by organizations like the United Nations. He also speaks regularly at seminars for Canadian police officers, crown prosecutors and social workers.
Dawson has been invited by the governments of India, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and the United States to act as a media observer/advisor on a variety of Asian-Canada issues. He was also a member of the 2010 World Expo Journalist observer team in Shanghai; an advance team of Canadian journalists to the Turin Winter Olympics to help prepare media coverage for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and was last year invited by the Taiwan government to observe their preparations for the Manila APEC Summit.

From mental health awareness and access to housing to anti-bullying initiatives and fighting poverty, we feel strongly about using our storytelling skills to inspire, educate and drive awareness.

We work with registered non-profit organizations, and we ask that you have the basic people, plan and funding to make your social change dream a reality when you come and talk to us. We will work with you to help make sure you are telling the right stories in the right places.
